Hey Chris Hadfield! We’re down here
The City of Sarnia is planning a brilliant ‘hello’ to Commander Chris Hadfield.
The Sarnia native is orbiting earth on the International Space Station and will soon take the command of the ship – the first Canadian to ever hold the job.
Now, the city is going to light up the night sky for Hadfield. On Friday (Feb. 8), Sarnia Mayor Mike Bradley is asking every city resident to turn on their interior and exterior lights between 7:30 pm and 8:30 pm. NASA estimates Hadfield and the crew will be flying overhead between 7:47 pm and 8:02 pm. Hadfield, a prolific photographer, will be taking pictures of the brilliant city.
Hadfield has been tweeting photos from space since he arrived at the ISS in December. Sarnia by day has been one of his favourite subjects, sending several pictures to Bradley. His photos have also been featured on TIME Magazine’s website. http://newsfeed.time.com/2013/01/31/photos-astronaut-chris-hadfield-tweets-stunning-images-from-orbit/
“This is a wonderful opportunity for Sarnia to be recognized nationally and internationally,” says Bradley in news release.
