Slip slid’n away: Sarnia cruiser crashes on snowy 402

A Sarnia Police cruiser had to be towed off the snowy 402 after an accident this morning.

The officer was using the eastbound highway to get to a call – lights flashing. The roads were slushy and icy after the fresh snow in the early morning hours when the officer lost control of the cruiser and slid into the ditch. The cruiser stopped along the south wall of the highway between the guard rail and the sound barrier wall near the Indian Road exit.

The cruiser’s airbag deployed and a passerby stopped to make sure the 32-year old was okay. He was taken to hospital and released without injuries.

Sarnia Police Const. Heather Emmons says the “extensively damaged” cruiser was towed from the scene and the OPP continue to investigate the accident.
