Sarnia cop OK after being run over

sarnia policeA Sarnia police officer has some bruises after being run over by a car at a traffic stop during a drug investigation.

Officers from the vice squad had stopped a car near the Bluewater Health parking lot at the corner of London Road and Russell Street last night and were about to arrest a woman in the car when the driver hit the gas, knocked over the officer and ran over the lower part of his leg.

Other officers arrived and chased the car through the parking lot before stopping the car and arresting the three people inside.

Police found a bag of crystal methamphetamine in the parking lot and cash strewn about the car.

After the arrest in the parking lot, police obtained a search warrant for a Capel Street address arresting a 50 year old man and seizing more crystal methamphetamine and 40 units of liquid methamphetamine.

Police say over 35 grams of crystal methamphetamine was seized with a street value of $4,260.  Almost $500 in cash was found in the car.

The charges against three men ages 50, 33 and 62 and one 41 year-old woman  include Possession of Cannabis Marihuana under 30 grams, Possession of Methamphetamine for the Purpose of Trafficking, Possession of Methamphetamine, Dangerous Driving, Assault Peace Officer and Breach of Recognizance.

Sarnia Police say the officer who was run over suffered soft tissue damage and won’t miss any work.
